Candid Interview with the iPhone

The iPhone has been very busy of late, what with its certification testing and tight schedule with Apple's pre-launch Q&A, but we managed to grab a few moments to chat with it about the songs on its personal playlist of songs.

"Inside Your Head" (Track 1) Oh, this song played at my debut commercial during the Oscars. I felt all shy and exposed, but still managed to say Hello to everyone.

"Ding, dong, the clock is wrong. Dong, ding. Tick, tock, stubborn clock. Tock tick. Inside your head. Inside your head. Still water sparkles here, the calm drifts away in here. Cuddle cravings addiction brings place your coat on six strings."
"Only God Can Judge Me" (Track 2) Sigh. Sounds like ev'y body gotta be up in my b'ness these days! Heh, we sometimes joke around and replace the word "God" with "Jobs". It'd be much funnier if it weren't so true.

"And everybody grieves, but still nobody sees. Recollect your thoughts don't get caught up in the mix, 'cause the media is full of dirty tricks, only [Jobs] can judge me."
"Music Box" (Track 3) I'll share a secret with you. I can't help loving this whole album. The name says it all. All this started when Apple created the iPod. 100 million music players later, and here we are still with the same sweet song.

"You take me through, the loneliness and emptiness. And I feel alright, 'cause you're by my side. Through it all, you tell me I'm the only one you need, sweet and tenderly. And your love, just breaks away the clouds surrounding me."
"They Live in You" (Track 4) I want to give a shout out to all the Apple engineers who poured their blood sweat and tears into me. Nuthin' but love, people!

"They live in you. They live in me. They're watching over, everything we see. In every creature, in every star. In your reflection, they live in you."
"You're Beautiful" (Track 5) Everytime I hear someone from Microsoft talking smack about me, I get the impression that in their heart of hearts, they're singing this song and hating themselves. They can ban iTunes on campus all they like, but I feel their pain.

"You're beautiful. You're beautiful. You're beautiful, it's true. I saw your [inter]face in a crowded place, and I don't know what to do, 'cause I'll never be with you."
"Jump Around" (Track 6) This song plays in my head when I see a Treo or a Blackberry. I mean, I know I'm not specifically trying to compete with them in the corporate arena... yet... but, hey... down dark alleys s#!t happens.

"Pack it up, pack it in. Let me begin. I came to win, battle me that's a sin. I won't tear the sack up, punk you'd better back up. Try and play the role, and, yo the whole crew will act up. Get up, stand up! Come on, throw your hands up."
"Hello" (Track 7) Oh, come on, you know you love this old chestnut too. An ode to Destiny, and that special new someone or some THING, that makes you happy to be alive on this great Earth.

"Tell me how to win your heart, for I haven't got a clue. But let me start by saying, I love you. Hello, is it me you're looking for?"
"Now that I Know" (Track 8) Mark my words, this is the song everyone who buys me will be playing all night long after they take me home. Away with illusions and empty promises! Find out for yourself I always say.

"I was afraid it was all a masquerade. That I was only a plaything, and you would leave me behind. But now I feel so secure, by your side, I can conquer the world. I gave you my love and I know you're the one... I want for the rest of my life."
"Kung Fu Fighting" (Track 9) Did I mention my moves? Bruce Lee ain't got nuthin on me! Was' up? Yo, Zune Phone, bring it on! Multi-touch, cover flow, visual voice, wha-chaaaah!!!

"It's an ancient Chineese art and everybody knew their part from a feint into a slip, and kicking from the hip. Everybody was kung-fu fighting. Those cats were fast as lightning! In fact it was a little bit frightning, but they fought with expert timing."
"Speed of Sound" (Track 10) When Steve plays this in a demo I always get goosebumps. It's been near 2 and a half years of development, and it seems to all be happening so fast.

"How long before I get in? Before it starts, before I begin? How long before you decide? Before I know what it feels like? Where to, where do I go? If you never try, then you'll never know. How long do I have to climb, up on the side of this mountain of mine?"
"Uhh Ahh" (Track 11) Steve has always said that any successful product has to have sex in it. Trust me when I say that the iPod was just foreplay. While this song might make you blush, well... I know how you like it, baby.

"I'm caressing your body emotionally as you can feel and will see. Why can't we go all the way to the top, the fullest extreme? The sounds I hear when you're with me express the way that you feel, girl. As you say - Uhhhh... ahh..."
"Word Up!" (Track 12) This song is an odd one. Everytime I'm playing it, my volume controls act up and things get really, really loud. My Yoga instructor says that means its my power song.

"If there's music we can use it, we need to dance.
We don't have the time for psychological romance...
No romance, no romance! No romance for me!
Mama, come on, baby, tell me what's the word?"
"Original of the Species" (Track 13) Except no substitutes, got it? With this clone war raging out of control, it makes me forget to enjoy this moment before my official debut. Steve demoed me with this song too, a nice start to something special.

"Baby slow down, the end is not as fun as the start. Please stay a child somewhere in your heart. I'll give you everything you want, except the thing that you want. You are the first one of your kind."
"Life is a Highway" (Track 14) Here's to browsing the Information Super Highway with Wi-Fi and not worrying about pricey, slower, 3G connnection charges. Oh, yeah... and mad-props to our pals at Pixar for reminding us that its cool to be fast.

"Life's like a road that you travel on, there's one day here and the next day gone. Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand, Sometimes you turn your back to the wind."
"The World's Greatest" (Track 15) Provided Japan warms up to me, and more networks sign on, is this too much to hope for? I dunno, I just like listening to it. Float like a butterfly, stang like a bee, ain't no phone you eva' owned gon' be betta than me!

"I'm that star up in the sky, I'm that moutain peak up high. Hey, I made it, Mmmm... I'm the world's greatest. I'm that little bit of hope, when my back's against the ropes. I can feel it? Mmmm... I'm the world´s greatest."
"I've Put A Spell On You" (Track 16) Whether I'm being panned or praised, I'm amazed how many people have such strong opinions about me already. --Oh, hey, Dvorak? Bite me.

"I put a spell on you, cause you're mine. You better stop the things you do, I ain't lyin. No, I ain't lyin'."
"All Will Be Well" (Track 17) Whenever I think of Steve, Apple, and how far we've come and all that's been invested to get me to this point I get all nervous, but right before I get system errors, this song calms me down with heaps of warm fuzzies.

"The new day dawns, and I am practicing my purpose once again. It is fresh and it is fruitful if I win, but if I lose... ohhhh... I don't know."
