Who Needs a Crystal Ball
to Predict the Obvious?

So, exactly what strategy is Apple taking with its iPhone? What types of new accessories should people expect?  Here's my top list of gadgets and expansions I would like to see, and where I see them fitting into Apple's overall strategy.

  • GPS Navigation - #1 most obvious addition. Here's why I don't think this particular gizmo will need to wait for iPhone version 2, though it may need to wait for Apple approval.

  • Universal Remote Control - This is the second most obvious application, and it not only has a history to it, but an entire industry. The interesting part however, is not that the iPhone should "replace" traditional universal remotes, but complement them.

Imagine turning on your stereo or television from your front door. Imagine having your phone memorize the remote functions for your camera, or control your Apple TV if you've misplaced the normal remote in a pinch?  Much like an iPod should not be used as a permanent hard drive, perhaps the iPhone Remote can serve as its own backup device as well.
